Georgetown County School District will operate on a modified hybrid schedule for the week of November 23, which will only be two days due to the Thanksgiving holiday break.  Your child will attend school for the week of November 23 based on the following schedule:

Monday, November 23, Cohort A will attend in-person.

Tuesday, November 24, Cohort B will attend in-person.

In addition, Georgetown County School District will offer REMOTE instruction only for Monday, December 21 and Tuesday, December 22 prior to the start of Winter Break.  These dates were originally scheduled to be part of the break, but had to be added back to the academic calendar due to the late start of the school year in September.   Students will follow the same REMOTE phase schedule that they used for the first two weeks of school.

Principal's Message

Dear Parents, Grandparents, Guardians, and Community Supporters:

I am honored to be appointed as the principal of McDonald Elementary School. I welcome the opportunity to serve the McDonald Elementary learning and teaching community. I look forward to working with a dynamic staff, dedicated parents and involved community members. Most of all, I look forward to working with our students and continuing the outstanding work at McDonald Elementary School.

On behalf of the staff at McDonald Elementary School, I welcome you to the 2020-2021 school year! We are excited about the start of the school year. We look forward to you and your family joining us as we "SOAR toward Excellence". We also anticipate a productive partnership with you to ensure our children will achieve their highest potential. We recognize that in order to be successful in school, our children need support from the home, school, and community. Having a strong partnership with you will make a great difference in your child’s education. As partners, we share the responsibility for our children’s success and want you to know that we will do our very best to carry out our responsibilities. We ask that you guide and support your child’s learning by ensuring that he/she:

1) Attends school daily and arrives on time, ready for the day’s learning experience
2) Completes all homework assignments given by teachers
3) Reads daily to develop a love for reading and to improve literacy skills
4) Shares school experiences with you so that you know what’s happening at school
5) Informs you if he/she needs additional support in any area or subject
6) Knows that you expect him/her to succeed in school

Please consider joining our school's PTO, volunteer program, and attend parenting workshops. Additionally, you will receive a copy of the Georgetown County School District Student handbook. Please review this with your child. If you have any questions about the rules and expectations, please feel free to contact me or discuss them with your child’s teacher. It is very important that you and your child are fully informed regarding standards related to appropriate behavior for a safe school year.

Please stop in to visit, introduce yourself, share suggestions, ideas, and concerns. My door is always open, as it will take all of us working together to assist our children in being successful.

The wonderful McDonald Elementary staff and I, feel privileged to be a part of this school family. We thank you for your support and look forward to an Outstanding and Productive school year.

Educationally yours,
Mack J. Burgess

Soaring to Excellence!
